I thought my Bialletti pasta pot was the best there is, but I was wrong. My new king of the bunch is the "Fasta Pasta". It consists of a plastic tub dimensioned to hold spaghetti or linguine without breaking the strands and a lid that has two features: One, a couple of holes for measuring portion size; and two, a perforated end for straining out the water without having to use a colander.
There are marks on the side of the tray that tell you how much water to add as a function of the amount of pasta that you want to cook.
To use the device, measure out the amount of pasta you want to cook, add water to the appropriate mark and nuke it in the microwave for the amount of minutes specified for the number of servings (4 maximum). Depending on the amount and type of pasta you want to cook, and how al dente you want to make it, the time is typically in the range of 10 to 15 minutes. Another variable is the microwave power which depends on the brand and model. In any event, after you have used it a couple of times, you will figure out the timing for your taste and equipment.
Cooking pasta does not get any simpler. I strongly recommend this product. The MSRP is $14.99, but Bed, Bath & Beyond sells it for $12.99, and, if you have one of their 20% off coupons, the price is just a little over 10 bucks.
